DALLAS, February 26, 2014 — Calvin Cool Joins the Crew at Istation Reading
Istation’s hip new character, Calvin Cool, joins the program’s engaging, animated cast to lead students through interactive, step-by-step lessons that teach the characteristics of good writing. Students and educators with Istation Reading subscriptions can automatically access the newly released “Writing Rules! with Calvin Cool” interactive online writing program.
Perfect for flipped classrooms, project-based learning and blended instruction, “Writing Rules!” guides students in developing their writing portfolios over multiple class sessions. Drafts are stored online and are available for students to revise at home with school subscriptions to Istation Home. Instead of juggling stacks of printed writing assignments, educators can review student work online and monitor progress of an entire class throughout each step of the writing process, from first drafts to final works.

He plays jazz, video chats with his friends online and shares writing tips on everything from planning and organizing to drafting, revising and publishing!
In addition to writing, Calvin Cool also plays jazz, frequently video chats with his friends online and shares writing tips on everything from planning and organizing to drafting, revising and publishing. His passion shines as he guides students through motivating writing activities on topics that are important to them. Students will build paragraphs and write essays while applying the six traits of effective writing: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency and conventions.
Independent, computer-guided instruction allows students to learn at their own pace. “Writing Rules!” also offers support for teacher-directed lessons so instructors can lead an entire classroom or large group using an interactive whiteboard or computer and projector system. Plus, students and educators both have online access to instructional materials such as writing samples, checklists, graphic organizers and student-friendly rubrics.
Students can join Calvin Cool in virtual cybercafes to relax together and explore ways to make writing fun and personal. He goes beyond basic rules to explain the benefits of writing with a purpose and writing for pleasure, so students learn to share and express ideas with friends and family and thoughtfully respond to instructional lessons.
