DALLAS, December 5, 2016 (Marketwired) — Istation Reading available for use as a literacy intervention program for grades pre-K to 8 through June 30, 2018
The School District of Philadelphia's Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment has approved Istation Reading as a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) program.
The district describes Istation as “a comprehensive supplemental reading program designed to enable all students to meet their full reading potential. Istation's assessments and curriculum are computer-adaptive and focus on the critical areas of reading to intervene with students who may be struggling with reading skills. Designed for grades PreK-8, several high schools across the United States use Istation Reading for their English I and II students who need assistance with foundational reading skills as well.”
Istation Chairman and CEO Richard H. Collins said, “Istation is thrilled to be recognized as an approved intervention program for Philadelphia schools. Our program is built by curriculum experts to support educators and empower learning in students. Our mission is to help every child unlock their superpower, and we look forward to serving the district.”
Qualifying intervention programs on Philadelphia's approval list must meet these criteria:
- Support core instruction, allow for practice skills and assist in grade-level mastery.
- Close achievement gaps for students with a deficit of two grade levels or more compared to their peers.
- Assist students who are capable of exceeding grade-level mastery.
- Increase achievement at a rate faster than average.
- Include a progress-monitoring tool that estimates rates of improvement, identifies students who are not adequately progressing and supports individualized instruction.
- Support students, teachers, school administrators and district administrators at various levels.
Having met all these criteria, Istation is now an option for Philadelphia schools to implement as part of their MTSS-RtII plans. Istation Reading has been approved by the school district through June 30, 2018. The program is available online via the Philadelphia Schoolnet Online Interventions Module.
